The Best Home Gym Weight Benches
Building a home gym? You need a weight bench.
Of all the pieces of home gym equipment, the weight bench is one of the most basic and necessary.
Whether you’re trying to lose weight or get ripped, the weight bench is the platform that many of your exercises are going to be based on. From chest press to bicep curls to dumbbell rows, a good bench is a vital piece of any home gym.
I’ve looked over the options and found 15 different gym benches at a very affordable price point to get you started. At the time of writing, all the options below are available for less than $350. Most of them are even less than that! Check it out, these are some of the best budget weight benches money can buy!
BEST OVERALL: Bowflex 5.1s SelectTech Adjustable Weight Bench
The Bowflex 5.1s takes our top spot for home gym weight benches! This benches adjustability and overall high construction quality gave it the overall edge here. Read on to see why!
Best Flat Weight Bench: Doeplex Flat Weight Bench – 1200 lb Rating for Weightlifting
Sometimes you don’t want something fancy. Sometimes you just want something that will support your weight, plus a few hundred pounds of plates. Sometimes stability and simplicity is more important than bells and whistles. When I’m on my back looking up at an Olympic barbell with 3 plates on each side, I’m not thinking about anything but getting that weight up in the air. I don’t want to worry about a wobbly weight bench. I don’t want to be doing math in my head hoping that I’m not going over the manufacturers weight limit.
Just need a basic flat weight bench? This is the one.
The Doeplex Flat Weight Bench is rated for 1200lbs, that’s double any other weight bench on this list. For less cash than many other items we’ve looked at, you can get a high quality bench that will take anything you throw at it. Easily.
Plus, this oversized memory foam padded weight bench will keep you (relatively) comfy while you get your sweat on.

Very stable, heavy duty, well built bench rated for 800lb. The handle and wheels are a nice bonus too!
Love them or hate them, Titan Fitness makes some solid gear for the price. This weight bench is rated for 1000lb and comes in at less than $150 making it a great option and one of the best budget weight benches available.
Best Flat Weight Bench + Rack Combo: Valor Fitness BF-7 Olympic Bench
This is a basic Olympic Weight Bench with few extra features, but if you’re looking for a super simple, super inexpensive solution to get a bench press into your home gym, this is a great option!
Valor Fitness rates this weight bench at 500lb and for less than $350 you get a sturdy, well built weight bench with a built in rack specifically designed for Olympic barbells. It even has a built in spotter platform if you want to lift heavy with a buddy or workout partner!
Best Adjustable Weight Bench: Bowflex 5.1s SelectTech Adjustable Weight Bench
This bench is SOLID! With a 600lb weight limit and 6 different adjustable positions, this adjustable weight bench is a great foundation to build the rest of your home gym on. Plus, this weight bench can be compacted with the press of a button, allowing it to be stowed to save space!
Bowflex is famous for high quality products and this gym bench is built strong with heavy-duty commercial construction. This weight bench has more than 3000 reviews on Amazon and the vast majority are overwhelmingly positive. The reason for that is simple – QUALITY! This is a well made, adjustable weight bench at a very attractive price point.
When you’re shopping for a weight bench for your home gym, quality is extremely important; A poorly made weight bench can seriously undermine your whole gym. A stable, safe bench will give you the confidence you need to get a solid workout done.
The Bowflex 5.1s may not come with a built in barbell rack, or a leg-developer like some of the other exercise benches on this list, but sometimes it’s important to remember that your home gym is the sum of its individual parts. It may be better to get yourself a high quality weight bench AND a high quality barbell rack instead a flimsy combo. With the Bowflex 5.1s you are getting a very high quality bench and a great base to build the rest of your home gym around.
Bowflex makes some of the best gym gear around and this is one of the best budget weight benches out there.

Very simple adjustable workout bench. This weight bench boasts 27 different position options and a very nice lifetime warrantee!
A nice showing from Marcy, this adjustable weight bench sports a 600lb weight rating and a built in leg-developer.
Best Compact Weight Bench: Fitness Reality 2000 Super Max XL Weight Bench
When you’re planning your home gym, space is always going to be an important factor. How much of your limited floor space are you willing to give up to your fitness equipment? Luckily, when it comes to weight benches, there are many options which allow you to fold and stow your bench, giving you much more flexibility when it comes to space and layout. You might think you have to give up features or quality to get this kind of functionality, but check this out:
This weight bench is super stowable AND super sturdy!
The Fitness Reality 2000 Weight Bench is rated for an impressive 850lb weight limit, folds up for easy storage, and is one of the less expensive exercise benches on this list, coming in at less than $200!
Not only that, but this weight bench has a 7 level adjustable back rest for various incline and decline positions, opening the door for more exercises than your traditional flat weight bench!
This compact weight bench has a highly rated predecessor: The Fitness Reality 1000 Super Max Weight Bench is one of the most highly reviewed weight benches on Amazon, with more than 5,800 reviews at the time of writing. The 1000 model is very highly regarded, but many people noted that the gap between the seat and backrest was pretty large, making for some awkwardness during use. The 2000 model was created to address these concerns, eliminating the gap between seat and backrest in all positions, not only that the 2000 model weight bench increases the weight rating by 50lb over the original 800lb limit!
Fitness Reality is not one of the best known names on this list, but it’s clear that they listen to feedback from the home gym community which earns them some kudos in my eyes for sure!

This compact weight bench is rated for 1,000lbs capacity, that’s pretty impressive considering the fact that it folds into an extremely compact package for storage. Plus, the fact that this bench comes in at under $150 makes it one of the best budget weight benches on the market.
The predecessor to the 2000 Super Max is still a very popular weight bench and its 800lb capacity is extremely impressive considering the level of adjustment possible. The Fitness Reality 1000 held the title of best budget weight bench for a long time, only recently overtaken by the new 2000 model.
Best Budget Weight Bench: Marcy Flat Utility Weight Bench
Building a home gym doesn’t have to break the bank, and if you’re looking to get something set up right now without spending thousands of dollars, the Marcy Flat Utility Weight Bench is a great option and my pick for the best budget weight bench.
This weight bench, while not the highest end item on this list, has an impressive 600lb weight rating and comes in at under $100.
This is the very first weight bench I ever owned when I first started on my home gym journey, and it did the job! This Marcy Weight Bench is simple to put together and solidly built.
The idea of a cheap weight bench may bring to mind images of uncomfortable, wobbly, creaking pieces of gear, but the Marcy Flat Utility Weight Bench shows us that you can get a decent weight bench at a very affordable price!
This inexpensive bench is rated for 500lb max capacity and reviewers on Amazon are pretty consistently surprised by the high level of quality and sturdiness. I came in a close second for best budget weight bench.
Best Full Body Workout Weight Bench: Marcy Olympic Weight Bench for Full-Body Workout MD-857
If you’re looking for a versatile Olympic weight bench with adjustable incline and decline, built in barbell rack, AND preacher curl pad, AND leg-developer, you might be expecting to pay $500-$1000, but check this out! The Marcy Olympic Weight Bench MD-857 get’s you ALL of that for less than $300 making it a great contender for best budget weight bench.
That’s right! Save some of that cash and get yourself a high quality Olympic Barbell and some nice plates instead! This weight bench combo has a 600lb limit and for the price, you get a really nice set up!
If space is not an issue, you can really cut down on the number of individual pieces of equipment you need to get your hands on when you buy one of these all-in-one weight benches. The versatility is obviously the main selling factor, but the truth is that this is a pretty decent weight bench in its own right. Sure it’s not the highest quality gear money can buy, but it’s a steal for the price and it will more than get you started on your home gym journey.
I had one of these in my garage a few years ago and the reason I went for this weight bench instead of something pricier was simple – I wanted to get a nice bar and some decent weights. That’s exactly what I did and I had a pretty sweet setup for the money I spent. This is definitely one of the best budget weight benches on the market.

This weight bench has an attached preacher curl pad and leg-developer. On top of that, it comes with a totally independent squat rack. Very cool!
This weight bench is very similar to the MD-857 that took the top spot, with the main difference being the detached squat rack. I like this feature, but overall prefer the additional safety features and stability of the MD-857.
And that about wraps it up, thanks for reading!

Hey I’m Patrick!
I built my first home gym in 2012, when I decided I was tired of waiting in line for the squat rack and I started GGC in 2020 to help people find the info they need to improve their fitness and their lives.
I’m passionate about fitness, especially when it comes to working out at home. I’ve learned a lot over the years about what to do and what not to do, and my mission is to share that knowledge with the world!
